You Are, If You Believe You Are

Whenever I get the chance to meet someone new I like to get a feel for what their aspirations are. I couldn’t tell you where this desire came from, but it is something that I have found to really help me understand a person and their character.

Generally speaking, the people I’ve met, from all over the world, are pretty ambitious. They have seemed to hone in on certain goals – many being fairly audacious (which I love) – and have had some sort of game plan in place to get them there.

Overall, I think most people have a positive, optimistic outlook on life. Of course their circumstances, upbringing and environment play large roles in that, but most people I’ve connected with have a higher ambition to do something with their life.

And then there are those that fall outside of this group….

It Starts With Believing

I’m far from being that person that has figured it out, but one thing I do know for certain is that I will never achieve anything that I want if I don’t truly believe that I can.

Noah's Ark

I’ve accomplished some things in my life that I’m really proud of, but I have also failed many times over. Looking back on those moments of victory I have realized that I had no doubt in mind at that time that I could achieve what I wanted.

And in those moments of failure….you guessed it….I doubted myself.

So whenever I meet someone now that tells me that they’d rather be doing something else but they don’t because they don’t think they can I get the urge to slap them. I haven’t yet, but maybe some people need a good slap upside the head to realize that they’re the only ones holding themselves back from achieving what they want.

Do you know someone that could use a proverbial smack across the face to realize that they have the potential to do whatever they aspire to?

P.S. No, I don’t listen to Tony Robbins or anything like that. This post was actually inspired by the photo above (old rickety boat with the name “Noah’s Ark”).

One reply on “You Are, If You Believe You Are”

I believe it was Jason Nazar, the wise founder of DocStoc, that said, ‘some people believe it when the see it’…….others ‘see it first and then believe it’……kind of a chicken and egg phenomenon but that paraphrase definitely resonates. Great blog, Vinny!
